Crazy Month

It's been a crazy month for us:

Dixie was killed a few weeks ago and now Harley has gone missing since Saturday.  He was prone to seizures in the past but they increased in numbers since Dixie died.  Does sadness and stress increase these - I don't know.  Saturday he happily was running in the field when Jerry left.  We haven't seen him since.

Corn Belt Energy took down our last big elm tree (estimated 150-200 years old) and although they did a good job - there is a lot of moving wood left to do.  Sad to see such an old tree go (as it was the other one) but they thought it would eventually fall.   They also left three huge piles of decent mulch.  Yet to be spread.

We have tried to get the yard cleaned for Spring and in prep for a meeting of about 30 women here next Monday for a garden walk.  I was only able to get the majority of the north side done and other obligations and weather has kept me from working.  This is the last year I'll host this so early - just too much inside and outside too early in the year.

Easter will be here this Sunday and am hopeful all the kids will be here.  I know Ians and Susans will be here but not heard yet from Trent.

We will have Bible Study here this Saturday - it was postponed from last week because we had the Freedom House Fund Raiser Benefit.  In these tough economic times, FH may have to revamp their fund raising methods.  Funding is scary with Illinois government problems and the Board will again have to look at ways to cut or save through out 2011-2012.  Had a FH Bd. & Executive Bd Mtgs. this month.  I will become president of the Board in June.

Jerry has been working on his old car and getting the engine back in after his overhaul.  It's been nice to have his help this year in the house and yard.

I got to meet my Dream Center sister this month.  The DC is a facility (among many over the US) where troubled women come for Christian strength and teaching.  It gives them tools to break destructive habits and change their lives.  I am a part of their "pen pal" sisters who write every week for Christian prayer and encouragement.  The sessions last almost a year so it is women who really want to change.

We finally got all Susan's shelves and bars to her new store.  They turned out nice.  Her carpenter and plumber are now having to work on the bathrooms and sinks before she can get the store finished and set up for opening.  The painting is done and we went down a day to help with some of those things.  It will look good once it's all done.  Then she will have a huge change in her work life.

Don and Kane are in track and doing really good.  Max is back in baseball and seems to be exceeding in everything they have him do.  The news articles read as if he IS the team.  Ashley and Lyle are about done with the college classes for the winter.  Grandma bought herself a car - much to the entire family's thinking it wasn't a wise move.  Gracie and Bradley are being cute - what can I say!  Other kids and grand kids are doing fine as well as we can tell from here.

Today (and many days this month) it is raining and storming.  Guess that's called Spring.  The daffodils are really beautiful and it appears most everything survived the winter - probably thanks to the heavy snow covering most of the winter.
