After three days, I've finally finished "most" of the Round-Uping, weeding, trimming and yard clean up. Whew! I usually have to do this fall cleaning chore in very hot humid weather but these mild temps. are great.
Today I canned tomato juice again (7 qts & 7 pts) plus a pt. of pickled hot peppers.
The bread and butter pickles are VERY pickled. I used a recipe I've never used before and probably won't use it again. They are alright but not what I was going for.
Next batch of tomatoes will probably be the last since the vines are dieing. The Mennonite farmer's wife where I get some of my produce (onions this time) told me it was tomato blight. The tomatoes are about as nice as I've ever had, no rot, no destructive insects - so guess I shouldn't complain.
The Kewanee Labor Day "Hog Festival" starts this week. A few of us are going to the H.F. Barrow Show at BHE College tonight to cheer for Sheriff hopeful, Tim Wise. He's in the celebrity portion. Of all the stupid humiliating things I did for charity over the course of my career, I'm so glad I missed this one. Although singing "I'm a Little Teapot" while dressed in Mexican clothes and waiting on tables ranked right up there. Then there was the Halloween thing at work and I was dressed like a mummy and was arrested for "Jail and Bail" and had my picture in the paper. Oh, yeah.
Karyl Klein Peterson will be here for H.F. and will be visiting with us Monday before going back to Georgia. We plan a visit with Ian's crowd.
