These photos were taken about 3:30 this afternoon. It is still snowing just as hard and it's after midnight. They have clocked winds at 65 mph. There is ice under the snow. Sure lets us know every little crack and gap in this old house. The storm just keeps wrapping back around on us. It's included thundersnow and lightening. Earlier this evening, Ameren reported almost 40,000 customer without power - I suspect many are further south since they had so much freezing rain. Another utility is saying they are not sending crews out until tomorrow. That's the first time I've ever heard that story from a utility. We've had to plow our way to outages but never simply pulled the crews. Be a cold night for some people without generators; the wind would force all the heat out of a house quickly. Sue in Monmouth and a friend over by Cambridge both said they have had bumps on their lines but didn't stay out.
The force of the wind has deposited snow on the inside shelves of the stained glass windows on the back porch - another first. National Guard Kewanee/Galva was called out to help on I80 but they can't get there.
Our animals haven't been outside since early this afternoon and have both been in their houses in the garage and both wanted covered up. "J" has a heated bed and Bitsey is clueless. Since the back porch is drifting, she wants out and then goes running and slides in the snow like a little kid on skates. Then wants right back in and is very vocal if it doesn't happen the minute she's done.
Finished my first fifty cent book today. My eye dr. appt. for tomorrow cancelled - no surprise. Will be interesting to see what the snow looks like tomorrow - expect to see some impressive drifts.
Stay home and don't be stupid tomorrow (I always say that to the kids in hopes it covers the multitude of things they might do that I might not think to mention.)
