House on the park

Images of the East and front of our house at 511 N.W. 2nd St., Galva in 1979.
I was in our old house on Wiley Park last evening. Although lovely, it had nothing that would indicate it was the same house. The only thing that is still there is the banister in the front hall.
The back of the front hall has been closed in so there is no door leading to the dining room and is much smaller. The big mirror in the LR is gone. The bay window in the dining room has been knocked out (towards Arters) and two huge square closets and steps lead to a new family room. A new bedroom is above it although I wasn't upstairs. There has been a laundry room and bathroom added to the back of the breakfast room (where we had the piano and everyday table) and the wall between that room and the kitchen is gone and a breakfast bar added. The kitchen has expanded into the new addition to the rear. The back stairway is gone and is now a closet. The wall from the piano room towards the Arters is knocked out and steps go down to a sun room. Everything has white carpet and it is decorated in country style and autumn colors. Woodwork is white. Lots of large furniture and every room looked much smaller for some reason. Walls are painted and papered in country patterns. New front door with side lights. Back door exits towards the drive instead of the back yard. It was kinda nice to not recognize anything. It's as if our home is still in my memory as it was.
