We saw Alice In Wonderland this evening and came away wondering why all the combined things (Johnny Depp, beautiful scenes, Tim Burton) fell so flat. And flat is the word. Where it could have gone into deeper and more mysterious, it just skimmed. It didn't even give you reason to be scared before zooming off. It was boring in spite of the fact I kept looking and hoping for more. First off, Johnny Depp is not the star although he certainly tried to wring everything from the pitiful little he was given. Where the star is Alice, it never really lets her character have any substance but she does get a lot of air time. The red queen is good but the white queen is meant to be a combo of sweet, endearing and quirky simply looks stupid and off. Some of the secondary characters almost grab you and then they are gone without ever getting anything else. Almost two hours and the result was every adult was mumbling the word "stupid" on the way out and every little kid was bored to the whiny stage. Teenagers simple were quiet which I took to mean they had either been busy with each other or had zoned out. The scary part was the ending left it open for a sequel - Nooooooooooo.Kept Grace this afternoon and she is getting taller and changing fast. Every time she is out I notice new skills.
Tonight after the movie, we ate Mexican and now home.
