Kane's FB game

Went to the Mid County Cougars JV game last night with Marla and Ian to watch Kane play. Coach didn't put him in until well after it started but once he did, Kane made all the difference and the whole team really stepped it up a bunch.

Kane's good and fast and a real fighter. On the down side, it makes him a target. Into the forth quarter we notice he was standing on the side lines and had Varsity Coach Buck face-to-face talking like he was seriously talking about football. In reality, he was measuring him for a concussion. Apparently, Kane got hit in the head/neck too hard too many times. Here are Ian and Marla's notes from FB:

"Kane sustained a concussion in tonight's JV game, he will be okay, staying home tomorrow, no sports for a week, and he gets to put up with me waking him up every 2 hrs tonight....but b4 he came out he did a great job, got several 1st downs and scored a TD...... Congrats to the whole team for a hard played and much deserved win!!!

Last night his pupils were HUGE and were not reacting properly, had blurred vision for a while, could not remember what play he had hit his head so hard on or even some of the previous plays, and was unsteady on his feet. He did not sleep well last night and is sick to his stomach today, but Dr warned us he wouldn't feel too great this morning but it is something that will pass...hes just chilling at home today with his overprotective mother...probably wishes he could have gone to school...lol"

I enjoy watching grandchildren play football but really hate the injury factor.

On a side note, it was as good of a football game as you would expect to see from varsity teams. Kane has a real future in football his next four years if he can stay injury free. Galva was not expected to win because the varsity at Stark County is rated something like 4th in the state. We were standing next to their varsity QB and he must be 7 ft plus and weigh 200# plus. Looks like when he graduates this year, Galva will have the next wave of wins in the LTC.

On a funny note, I worked with Tom Buck (varsity FB coach) back almost 30 yrs ago - when we both were MUCH younger. Hadn't seen him in years. Marla said something about Coach Buck talking to Kane and I looked and looked and didn't see him. Well surprise - surprise - he has aged too. I talked to him after the game and we laughed about it and our white hair. I had seen him earlier on the MC side and wondered who that old guy was who kept talking to all the players. Dang I hate a mirror that tells the truth.

Glad Kane is alright - hopefully we'll get to have both he and Donny back playing because both are not only important to family but they both make the teams much MUCH better. Then there's that whole "mother" thing with poor Marla watching her boys get bumped around.
