They made great progress yesterday with the soil dug out, the wall out, and have started preparing for the footings. They are also going to cement over any dirt floor areas left by the wall being removed. It took them quite a long time to brace up that side of the house.
They are doing quite well not destroying things in the yard but big machinery in tight places have been a challenge for contractor Arnie. I went out early to do my daily picture taking of what is blooming. Good thing since the first bloom of the one daylily I didn't move is now under mud and tire. The plant survived but the fragile flower was not match for a clod of dirt.
With as much rain as we've had, I thought perhaps the equipment might eat away more than it has where they drive. At least in one day, it isn't too bad. The cement truck is another story. They are going to have to lay block instead of pouring cement since they just can't get the huge truck in close enough. Note to self: Next house do not landscape every possible access to the house!!!! They will park the cement truck on the gravel, wheelbarrow loads of cement over to the basement door, install a shoot to slide it to the basement and then wheelbarrow over to the site. There's a reason young lads are employed by old contractors.
Grace was here during the whole thing including lots of noise and big machines. She slept almost four hours during the worst of the noise. Then spent about 45 seconds looking out the window and was bored with it all and went back to her dolls. I remember when Max was CRAZY about big machinery. With me, it just makes me anxious on what could go wrong, what will add extra costs, and what it will take to get it all back together once they're done. On the flip side - the basement will be water tight and stabilized - waahoooo.
